OUR STORY:
In the late summer of 2010, conversations were had amongst community leaders in the Bryan/College Station area about how we could do more to help prepare our young people to succeed now and into the future. It was agreed upon that, at that time, most young people and parents expected to get leadership instruction from school, church, and whatever extracurricular activity they dedicated their free time and resources to participating in. The fact is that with contracting school budgets and religious priorities, there was a void in quality youth leadership instruction that was free and available to all of our youth ages 13-18. As more and more people were sought out for their input, it became clear that this void was much greater than initially thought. Something had to be done... Also at that time, there was serious discussions about how to increase youth participation across the community while at the same time improving existing organizations financial stability to offer services to youth that they knew could not afford it. With a very limited, and in some cases no, resource pool set aside to assist these organizations in taking on at-risk youth, there was a major participant pool who could never gain access to the best fields, best coaches, and best players as a means to improve and grow. Something had to be done... The final piece that was recognized was the lack of coaching education amongst our volunteer coaches, parents, and mentors. Parents trust these influential adults to have a positive impact and equip their child with the tools needed to succeed in sports and in life down the road. The lack of education amongst the majority of these leaders was an issue that had to be addressed. Something had to be done... The Brazos Valley Youth Sports Foundation was born. Our 10 year vision is to: -Develop young people's life skills and global awareness via an elite level, free, life skills curriculum; -Improve the baseline coaching knowledge of all of our volunteer coaches, parents, and mentors in the Brazos Valley; -Increase the level of participation amongst at-risk youth while at the same time stabilizing local youth sports organizations budgets; -Improve the level of facilities that our youth are utilizing across the community; The Brazos Valley Youth Sports Foundation (BVYSF) united the youth sports community like it has never been united before. This is only the beginning... |
